Hey, turn off your mind and float around Surfing on a wall of sound Float downstream enjoy the ride Let it take you to the other side Lie back, relax, gaze at the stars You can get there if you listen hard Close your eyes you can hear the surf Don't confine your mind to earth Come walk with me through endless time see what’s been and the future sees You won't come down You won't come back Surfing on a sonic track We are surfers of the mind Well, there's no time to sit around Eating pretzel's on the lounge Play the scene and wear the gear Let the music fill your ears Your feet are moving far too fast Picking up the pace at last Floating up into the night Dancing on a beam of light Get lost in a whole new age You can jump out of the cage The melody you're hearing now Is surfing in your memory Do it now, do it now Get lost in a whole new age Floating up into the night Dancing on a beam of light We are surfers of the mind Turn off your mind and float around Mind surfing on a wall of sound Turn it up and play it loud Let the blood rush to your head You don't have be to stuck where you are today Why not, take yourself light-year's away Mind surfing on a 30 foot wall of sound You don't have to come down You don't have to come back Wow, turn it up and play it loud Let the blood rush to your head Our destiny's already here Surfing on a wall of sound Do it now, do it now Get lost in a whole new age Lightspeed moving not too fast Waiting for the sonic blast Get lost in the mystic sound The secrets that were lost and found You won't come down You won’t come back We are surfers of the mind

Spiral Dance 04:47
Spiral Dance In the room at the back of the house The walls are soft and pulsing Wet and cool Magick wells up inside of me Until it overflows Cascading down my cheeks Pale brown boards stretch down the corridor A shimmering haze settles over the maze Smoothing over valleys Of past dreams and reality Starry-eyed I'm spinning Slowly A spiral dance In a black world of blue The earth spins her dance too A hybrid of reality stretched over infinity Sensing the garden Soft wisps of willow lisp and caress The beaded air of the mist And the wise witch wove her dreams Spinning coiled ropes of silver That wound round the trees Starry-eyed I'm spinning Slowly A spiral dance There's textured bark that moulds itself to my shape It's dark green and wet And there are sounds of water dripping Disintegrating shapes and flickering shadows Trickle into my brain And I dream of crystals glowing to the rhythm of my breathing Starry-eyed I'm spinning Slowly A spiral dance

We Are Now 03:11
Where did you go wrong? What can make you strong? Let’s dance along a cosmic beam and fly across the sun Drift along through time Slow right down, be here right now Get into it Its all like the first and no time like the last C’mon groove with it. We are here we are now Everybody all together Now we are now we are now Not in a minute nor an hour Tomorrow, yeah forever Now we are now we are now We did you go wrong? What can make you strong? The universe inside your heads, the same in everyone It feels so wild and good Exactly like it should Get into it If you want to know Well just go with the flow, it’s part of us We are here we are now Everybody all together Now we are now we are now Not in a minute nor an hour Tomorrow, yeah forever Now we are now we are now We are here we are now Magick and Power Now we are now we are now

Mother ocean all around me Wraps herself around my soul Flows into my imagination A mirror of the whole And the waters close around my face Under the blue Sunlight shafts illuminating, pale green ghosts of ocean soul Softly roars the music of my being, an echo of the whole And the waters close around my face under the blue. Something called me, I answered slowly to a fish with kaleidoscope eyes.
5.
The forces of the universe and the elements of time and space Conjured up my being, my size, my time, my shape Way back when the rocks all turned to stone And the stars to dust, in a fantasy of time and space for a moment all was clear As Above So Below As the Universe So the Soul The moon’s a silver dream in the black infinity As I look I whirl away, into the sun’s eternal blaze And the music is immense each note a thousand years long and each tune is a moonage of never ending song As above so below as the universe so the soul

S-s-s sex is in the house S-s-s- sex is in my head S-s-s- sucker it’s all a game Oh yeah, Oh yeah

You don't know what it's like and you never ever will. Do you want to dive into my ocean? Do you think I want you too? You want to make life in test tubes, a world full of redundant wombs. Kill the real girls and create a race based on a pretty face. Kill girls kill the real girls Men have the right if they want to destroy life Let's have another war while the women do their chores But a woman no, not even when it's inside her. Relinquish her of a maternal choice, bears another child with an unhappy voice. There’s no natural selection thanks to sexism and medicine. Terminate not over populate. The future lies in a willing woman's arms. Can I make you breakfast? Can I please wash your underwear? Can I laugh at your boring jokes? Come on stick your big cock down my throat. Feels so good when I choke. Force me to fuck you when I don't want to. Tell me where you think my future lies when you put your head between my thighs. You don't know what it's like and you never ever will. Do you wanna? C’mon try to sucker. Kill the real girls.

She's coming ssshh She's coming I can feel it inside me Churning like a thunderstorm It's ju-ju stirring my witches brew And lightning cracks Snaking up my back Primal passion flashback Eternal aphrodisiac Kali - accelerate me! Sever my ego with the sword of sapience Fire burn away my ignorance Transcendental peace and strength New levels of consciousness I am the first choice of the primal impulse The indestructible feminine force Defined by no man Untouched by male hands I am Kali Accelerate me!

Mask 03:48
Mirror mirror on the wall who's the prettiest girl of all? She can't live with herself, she's always trying to be someone else she'll learn to love all that's fake, it doesn't matter what it takes she'll have the perfect image for her less than perfect self. She's putting on something to hide behind you can chip chip, chip away all you like you'll never find what lies behind her mask. Its beautiful, its wonderful, its magical. Her life is vast charade, she’s only loved for what she fakes But she wants to be something – she’ll do anything. She starves and faints and paints her face. She’s putting on something to hide behind, every days different, and every day’s the same, yeah, a vast charade, she’s only loved for what she fakes.

No more imagination There's a role to be played Go to work and be milked Like cattle everyday Human stables hold the herd Office stalls filled with stock The system keeps you docile By promising the weekend off They seem to like it The cattle waiting at the gate Mutated and bred for their meat and their milk Someone else has sealed their fate Masses like asses Our heads in the trough We eat what we're given Masses like asses Waiting at the gate to be led to the slaughter Strapped flat to your back and ordered to dispatch The goods of another in less time than you have. Stumble around weighted down suffer at your own expense For when you're worn down you will be dispensed with. Dulled by fumes and poisonous liquids, your own demise is something to exalt in. Responding to the call of primal compulsion You find yourself waking up drunk in some stranger’s apartment Masses like asses Our heads in the trough We eat what we're given Masses like asses Waiting at the gate to be led to the slaughter

Make your Stash Make your Stash be careful when you do Everyone is so hard at work Making it tough for each other to win I think I know who wins in the end my friend.

We are looking for young tanned blondes who can swim on their rags wearing white We need sugar coated euphemisms and make up, cue cards and a spunky young guy Suddenly we spotted Bambi and Fifi and offered them money to act carefree and randy We promised them they’d be on tv, in the press! At least someone is having a period all financial year. Our advertising director was most impressed, Fifi and Bambi were just the sort needed to help us Create and dictate the minds of the menstruating public. Sunny happy raunchy, always at the beach. Isn’t that what life’s all about for pretty young girls? Well that's what we'd have them believe after we run and rerun our tampon commercial. I'm a young tanned blonde and I work hard to be one I douche regularly to cover up the smells of my femininity. I'm so happy to spend lots of money so I can be pure and acceptable socially. I'm so lucky there's a feminine hygiene product for every day of the week. It's so much fun to go shopping for that special time of the month. So many tampons to choose from for my summer of frolicking and fun. I'm not inconvenienced by my biological inheritance. I make sure I subdue it into insignificance! Plug it up push it away out of sight, So I feel pure delightful and nice I need to hide my menstruating all that blood is very embarrassing. But what's all this emphasis on small and soft? I want my tampons big and hard like my cocks! I want to be turned on by my tampon. Come on baby shoot me with a big white bullet.

about

Cheersquad Records and Tapes announce the release of a collectible vinyl ‘best of’ by DEF FX.  The eleven-track album called ‘Collect Vol 1’, features Def FX classics, like ‘Surfers of the Mind’, ‘Masses Like Asses’ and ‘Kill The Real Girls’. The album is available on limited edition clear 12” vinyl (100 only), black 12” vinyl and digitally (with a bonus track available on the digital release).

Formed in Sydney in 1990, Def FX carved out a unique place in Australian music – both sonically and iconically.  At the core of the band’s success and their critical and public attention was their inimitable blend of electronic beats and samples, rock/metal instrumentation and grunge vocals, which saw them draw comparisons with artists as disparate as Pink Floyd, Metallica and The Prodigy.  Add to this the charm and charisma of the enchanting lead singer and song writer, Fiona Horne and a killer live show, and you have a winning combination that saw Def FX maintain the intrigue and fascination of audiences well beyond the duration of their recording history.

From Fiona Horne:

When Cheersquad Records offered the opportunity to create a Def FX compilation album of earlier songs I immediately thought of our number one fan who over the years has evolved into the official Def FX archivist and historian, Robert Wilmshurst. He is also now a dear friend. I couldn’t think of anyone else I could sit down with and go through our catalogue and choose a fresh collection of tunes that would capture the energy, philosophy and wall of sound that was and continues to be Def FX.

Just like in the 90’s, Rob still comes to every Def FX show when we reunite to get nostalgic and have the best time 90’s style.

We hope this album captures the best energies of the best time in music when people watched and danced and screamed and moshed … without smart phones!

From Robert Wilmshurst

I'll never forget my introduction to Def FX. It was 1990, at 3.30am in the riverside town of Mannum, South Australia while watching RAGE with a friend. The first few bars of ‘Surfers of Mind’ started and I scrambled quick to hit ‘record’ on the VHS machine! My mind was blown by what I was seeing. It was so dynamic, loud, metal, dancey … a perfect combination! After this I was hooked and had to find out as much as I could about Def FX.

So many epic memories and it’s hard to pick the best: from being pummelled in the mosh pit, getting kicked in the head by band members stage diving, travelling Australia to be at the front, and a 30-hour bus trip for a NYE show and back home the next day.
Best must be their first Adelaide show in 1992 – they had finally arrived in my hometown! It was like a full-on religious experience I'd never had anywhere else.
Just being there front and centre was the greatest event of my life.

Only to be topped by putting this album together with Fiona!
