Didn’t I scare you away? Haven’t I already sabotaged this affair? Wasn’t I the one Sayin’ I’m not ready for this Cause I’m thinkin’ a lot about you Living in a constant state of restlessness Like I just can’t wait And I’m thinkin’ a lot about you Wasn’t really looking for a lover Only wanted someone I here to play with for a while I guess it might be fun I could be that fool for you now Cause I’m thinkin’ a lot about you Livin’ in a constant state of restlessness Like I just can’t wait And I’m thinkin’ a lot about you Didn’t I scare you away? Wasn’t really looking for a lover But I’m thinkin’ a lot about you Living in a constant state of restlessness Like I just can’t wait And I’m thinkin’ a lot about you Living in a constant state of restlessness And sleeping late And I’m thinking a lot about you

Hey babe would it be alright If we stopped right now And pulled in for the night I’ve heard this record seven or eight times And the conversation’s fading with the fuel gauge light I see a neon sign up the street For a hotel where we can sleep Behind Vacany Signs We still shine all night But we’re missing the why Broken words tonight Fill these empty rooms We’ve come this far Hey girl would you set the alarm Cause I’m gonna have a couple in the public bar See I’m wide awake cause we get far And I planned to drive all night While you slept in the car See the road is just too long And if you’re tired we might belong Behind Vacany Signs We still shine all night But we’re missing the why Under the broken word tonight In these empty rooms Would be brides and grooms We’ve come this far I guess the road is just too long Hey babe we just don’t belong Behind Vacany Signs We still shine all night But we’re missing the why We put broken words in lights In these empty rooms Would be honeymoons We’ve come this far We’ve come so far

I can only try once more To make it count this time Doin’ something that I cannot undo Is proving mighty hard to When I’m doing it to you Somethin’ tells me it’s a shame That there is no-one to blame And none of it was true You’ve really done The deed this time If it cannot be undone I can only watch you run Back into my arms once more Let me show you to the door I guess I been this way before About a hundred times or more I even know it by it’s smell But taking chances is a habit If I see a chance I grab it Guess you know me well I can only try once more To make it count this time I can only try once more To make it count this time But if you try To make it right Chances are it is forgone I can only watch you run Back into my arms once more Let me show you to the door

I need somebody to wipe away my tears I need somebody to brush aside these fears I went to bed with the night light on I woke up and you’re still gone I need somebody to wipe away my tears I need somebody to wipe away these tears All of those words we said in haste Forgotten now as I lie and wait I need somebody to wipe away my tears I keep hearing the words my mother said – I need somebody Stuck like record inside my head – I need someone Make your peace before you go to bed You went and left before we had time Now I don’t know what’s running through your mind I need somebody to wipe away my tears I need someone to hold me close and say – I need somebody There’s no good reason for you to feel this way – I need someone I’m back home now let’s start again It’s the middle of the night almost quarter to four I ain’t heard that key in the door I need somebody to wipe away my tears I need somebody to brush aside these fears I need somebody to wipe away I need someone to wipe away These fears – need somebody to wipe away, need somebody to wipe These tears
5.
Cold are the nights Long are the days You sleep to find the comfort That seldom comes your way When will you come my way When will you come my way When will you come my way When will you come my way I stepped out of the darkness In search of you my friend I hoped you’d be my saviour I had to step back once again When will the red leaves fall When will the birds fly home If you appear before me I won’t know what to say This question will not leave When will you come my way You’re all my past desires Awakened in one dawn I search for you each day When will you come my way Cold are the nights Long are the days
6.
I won’t see you again You couldn’t stay no more With nothing in your pocket But a number to call I won’t see you again I won’t see you again When you find your destination Won’t you write me a few of your lines And maybe I’ll realise With all this between us All the hours and the distance May we see our way through I’ve been down with the devil Since you’ve been away When you’re loose, it’s so easy to stray And to know what’s right I’m taking my time If there’s no cause for disruption I’m doing fine It’s just a memory of you That’s on my mind I can’t sleep from my dreaming And these night-time friends that I’ve found They do me no good (chorus) I could cry you a love song Over mountains and divide Just to move you a little closer To me tonight I’m in purgatory And folks are staring at me They say you forget what you leave behind But I can’t stop reminding myself Of all those good times Yeah of all those good times I won’t see you again All those good times
7.
Stumbling in and it’s four in the morning I guess I’m going to be late again Every time I think I’ve got it all sorted I wind up making the same mistakes Whenever the sky is breaking – breaking up And it’s me against the world – me and you Jessie I wish I was back there Climbing over fences – skipping stones Just me and you Nothing turns out the way that you want it And I don’t care much for this grown-up place You said we always stay united And no one could get in our way And here I am again when the day is dawning I really shouldn’t be late again Maybe from today I’ll start looking forward Instead of making the same mistakes
8.
It’s time you cut your cake up Relax and crack your make-up You’re forty and a wake up Should you fall onto the knife You tell them how you hate me You want to dislocate me Get your friends around And you get them all onside I wanna split you open wide I wanna split you open wide Cos it’d be nice To know what’s on the inside Your new decision Has put you in a prison There’s no locks or bars But you can’t get outside And has your logic failed ya Just like a shipwrecked sailor The wind is at your back But you’re going out with the tide You tell them all you hate me You want to relocate me Why don’t you get your friends around Get them all onside To know what’s on the inside Know what’s on the inside
9.
I see further down the line Way beyond my own time Once I was a party girl I would stay up all the night I had no plan couldn’t see much Further then the daylight Now I see further down the line Way beyond my own time I see myself in her eyes I’ll go around now one more time I see further down the line She is like the snowdrops melting (She is like the sun) On the mountainside (Warm as the sun) I’m always running when she’s calling She’s got me on her ride (She takes me on) But don’t try to catch her (Just don’t try) She’ll slip through your hands Little tricks and little secrets That I understand
10.
Been going crazy Baby I been feeling down My mind’s all messed up I keep spinnin’ round and round Make some decision Make it now Make some decision Or get out Been feeling used up Like I am in the lost and found Gotta make my mind up I’m on a spiral headin’ down

about

In 2003, Barb Waters' ‘Rosa Duet’ debuted on the Australian airwaves. It was met with a warm and favourable response from radio stations and garnered high praise from the press nationwide. Two years in the making, produced by Craig Pilkington and released on Laughing Outlaw Records, the album featured duets and songwriting collaborations with a range of already-celebrated artists - the much-missed Cyndi Boste, Kim Salmon, Dan Warner, GIT, Anna Burley, Matt Walker, Ash Davies, Nick Barker, Lisa Miller, Rebecca Barnard, and Rob Snarski. Described as 'highly recommended', 'seductive', with 'lyrics like they come from the soul', Rosa Duet was featured in Rhythms Magazine's Top 10 albums for 2003 and got a runner-up gong for album of the year from Rhythm's editor and Off the Record programmer Brian Wise.

20 years later in 2023, Barb Waters' ‘Rosa Duet’ finds a new home at Cheersquad Records & Tapes with its first vinyl release. Pressed on beautiful red recycled vinyl, Rosa Duet is ready to be revisited by existing fans and introduced to a new generation of alt-country fans.

Waters claims that the songwriting process– or the journey –was as pivotal as the destination. Waters and her collaborators expanded on ideas and scenarios that had been living in her head for some time – couples on the verge of breaking up, "doors slamming" (Make it Count, Vacancy Signs), love and friendship that may be around the corner (When Will You Come My Way, Thinking A Lot About You), sparks which may need to be extinguished before they burn out of control (I Won't See You Again). Duets with several voices telling tales of family and friendship were formed– Wipe Away My Tears, Further Down the Line, Jessie (Me & You). These songs were shaped and shared around the kitchen tables of Barb's Melbourne-based duetters and paid homage to many of the great duetists – Nancy & Lee, George & Tammy, Emmylou & Gram.

Following its 2004 European release, further highly favourable press rolled in: '…an outstanding collection of songs with the strongest vocals…all year', 'wonderfully radiant', 'heart-stopping', and 'sterling stuff'.
‘Rosa Duet’ featured in the Euro-Americana charts for several weeks, was showcased on BBC Radio, and was feature album of the week on Benelux and German-based radio stations.

‘Rosa Duet’ is out on December 1, 2023.
