You'll get used to this And there'll be no need to cry And you'll build walls around yourself so tall that nobody'll dare to climb It's not just you who hurts You're not the only one And there'll be much more pain and worse in store Before you get anything done And all those friends you can count on To always have your back They'll give you up without a second question You can believe in that Because everyone's gonna let you down And so we build it bigger See how far we spread See us feast ourselves on self-importance See all the gold we spend Come join us at the table Not that you have a choice Enjoy the taste of imminent extinction Now just don't you make any noise Everybody's happy No problems anymore No more complaints, only communication Now that we're all an afterthought Everyone's gonna let you down

Four Walls 03:11
I, going nowhere Four walls for company Gaze ever longer Into this world made just for me I could watch this train-wreck forever As it drains all resistance out of me There's nothing stopping me now I'll be wherever you go There's nothing slowing me down I know whatever you know You've never needed me more I'm everything that you are You're never letting me go You're nothing without me now Please won't you save me From my mind which I despise Reach deep within me I am yours to pacify I could sit here aimless forever As you dig for gold inside of me There's nothing stopping me now I'll be wherever you go There's nothing slowing me down I know whatever you know You've never needed me more I'm everything that you are You're never letting me go You're nothing without me now
3.
O My Darling 04:19
Alone in the midnight crowd again A heaving sea of right now let it never end Thinking I'll be leaving soon Suddenly something across the room I feel your eyes call White light blankets the wall Where our shadows first met And we touched in silhouette Eyes, wide as the sky Watching you move like you do Could this be true? Or am I just blind all the time? Oh my darling Back of a cab deep in the night Where your eagerness meets mine Until I finally get you home Where you dance to The Rolling Stones And I, I could just die Watching you move like you do Could this be true? Or am I just blind all the time? Oh my darling But morning light Like a raging fire That burns all memory of you away Lose my mind watching you Move like you do Could this be true? Or am I just blind? Oh nevermind Surely you can see through All my bad news Watch me, I'm just blind all the time Oh my darling

In your home when you feel at your safest In your thoughts you keep to yourself, alone I am there I am patiently listening I follow you wherever you go I am truth I am lies that you tell yourself You can trust in my every word I need not your permission or your promises Only know I can make you hurt If I can’t make you mine You’ll be easily swept aside If I can’t make you mine When you finally piece it all together That I can’t be trusted or seen at all An apparition is all that will become of me Some thing you wish you hadn’t wished for And while I’m buried here In the tomb of your memory Watching you as your life unfolds I spread my roots in the soil of your history And your future here is where I make my home And if I can’t make you mine I’ll make those that you love comply If I can’t make you mine I’ll rip all of the joy from life If I can’t make you mine I’ll settle for terrified If I can’t make you mine Yeah you’ll leave every light on at night I’ve lied to you before And I’ll lie to you again

Dead Already 05:59
Nothing’s ever gonna change Tell your children they won’t be saved The cries are many and they’re all the same We’re dead already All the world aflame Digging deep into the earth We exhumed the life of former worlds To grow forever we made it burn The sacred is of no concern And as to ash the future fades Sacrificed to lies and waste An endless summer for the end of days We now look backwards and go retrograde
6.
Eyes 03:39
An endless void of cruelty fear and lies This is the colour of my true love’s eyes And I’d give anything to hear him cry Cry my name as he sets my world on fire Nobody from a go-nowhere town I was lost but in him I am found Such a fool to put his trust in me now Eyes wide open as he spits into my mouth And every night I gather helpless in his thighs Crawling through his chest to a hole where I can hide Reaching for his wrist and a shiny knife Now I wish the world could see the fear in his eyes
7.
My lover comes to me with a rose on her bosom The moon's dancing purple All through her black hair And her lady’s in waiting she’ll stand 'neath my window And the sun will rise soon On the false and the fair Sing a-to Lorelai-oh She tells me she comes from our mother the mountain Her skin fits her tightly And her lips do not lie She silently slips from her throat a medallion Slowly she twirls it In front of my eyes Sing a-to Lorelai-oh I watch her, I love her, I long for to touch her The satin she's wearing Is shimmering blue Outside my window her ladies are sleeping My dogs have gone hunting Their howling is through Sing a-to Lorelai-oh So I reach for her hand but her eyes turn to poison And her hair turns to splinters And her flesh turns to brine She leaps across the room, she stands in the window And screams that my first-born Will surely be blind Sing a-to Lorelai-oh Then she throws herself out to the black of the nightfall She's parted her lips But she makes not a sound I fly down the stairway, and I run to the garden No trace of my true love Is there to be found Sing a-to Lorelai-oh So walk these hills lightly and watch who you're loving By our mother the mountain I swear that it's true And love not a woman with hair black as midnight And a dress made of satin All shimmering blue Sing a-to Lorelai-oh My lover comes to me with a rose on her bosom The moon's dancing purple all through her black hair And her lady's in waiting, she'll stand 'neath my window And the sun will rise soon on the false and the fair
8.
Once upon a time Or maybe twice, or maybe more You sang your song to me Always after midnight With a whisper and a will To bring me to my knees And oh how you were charming With all your rosy words So full of vision Of the future, you and me And all that we’d become And being aptly wooed and thus subdued I will admit I offered myself up Such flattering affection And promises you made And I, a fool, believed you Every time you’d say That I will wait forever I will wait for you But ultimately words and nothing more were all they were And none were worth a damn And off so breezily you rode Into someone else’s arms To sing your song again It goes like I will wait forever I will wait for you And onward you are riding Singing all your songs For your audience Of one
9.
She takes a trip to the store She’s gonna need some supplies She buys an axe and a shovel And a couple rolls of duct tape And a bottle of wine She’s gonna leave here with splinters There’ll be dirt under her nails But even deeper nobody will believe All of the things that she’s got buried away And all who caused her pain were never seen again When she was young she liked dancing And getting lost in the woods She was no different to any other She had a mother and her mother was good She got a little bit older She opened up to the world And she was met with a cruelty and corruption That weaved into the fabric of her She is ready to find you She thinks that you will do fine She’s got a spot in the woods somewhere quiet And she would like you to come visit sometime Under a curtain of lashes Her pupils dilate It’s her attention to detail and her patience They’re the things that she most appreciates And all who caused her pain were never seen again
10.
Mother mourning for the world All she’s felt and seen and heard Made to feel a useless girl But one day soon man she’ll get hers She said now that summer’s coming I could care less About all you motherfuckers you deserve what you get A hundred thousand diamonds in a crown on my head Watch the life leaving your eyes with both my hands round your neck Mother lives inside her dreams Where she rules by any means Mass starvations, killing sprees All you people on your knees She said now that summer’s coming I could care less About all you motherfuckers you deserve what you get With each extinction thinking god I hope that you’re next I see red, I see forever I see nothing I’ll miss Mother wants to end it all For these frauds and criminals Who’d sell her children’s future for A fleeting chance to feel adored She said now that summer’s coming I could care less About all you motherfuckers you deserve what you get Keep the engine humming, heading over the cliff Please take everybody with you when you come to an end

about

Summer’s Coming was written over two years and recorded under the watchful eye of producer Wade Keighran (The Scare, Wolf & Cub, Elvis - music supervisor) between Head Gap Studios in Naarm/Melbourne, Golden Retriever Studios in Eora/Sydney and The Tender Joint in Colomatta/the Blue Mountains. It was a period of many firsts for Al Matcott: his first time working with a producer; his first time recording in an established studio; and his first time collaborating with his live band - Brendan West (he/him; bass), Miranda Holt (she/her; drums) and Steve McLennan (he/him; guitar).

Finding inspiration in classical literature, philosophy, poetry, and bands like Interpol and A Place To Bury Strangers, Al Matcott adopts a series of characters throughout Summer’s Coming to tell stories punctuated with his masterful songwriting craft: caterwauling guitars, a blistering rhythm section and a dark, despairing mood. His engrossing lyricism focuses on the encroaching climate crisis - “It’s what keeps me up at night. What is happening to mother earth should be viewed as an act of violence.” he firmly states - and delves into daily tensions that many of us face: the unrelentingly addictive design of social media, being held hostage by your own mind and turning to meditation, and continually pulling that same irritating-as-all-hell tarot card that holds a mirror to the ugliest parts of yourself. It’s a journey of a record, one that sees Al Matcott’s celebrated songwriting reach scorching new heights.

Formerly a drummer, guitarist and singer in a number of bands including Euphoriacs, Honey Badgers and Buried Feather, AL MATCOTT made his solo debut in 2021 with the release of the four-track EP You Can Be Anyone and quickly followed with a string of singles in 2022 including ‘Crystal Ball’ and ‘Sophia’. His releases saw swift support from CLASH, The Indie Scene, Radio X (UK), Triple R, Double J, Pilerats and many others, all praising his strong storytelling and delicate balance of the dark and the light across expertly written songs. Al Matcott is a firm staple of Naarm/Melbourne’s live music scene, having played over 30 shows in the last 12 months including Boogie and Leaps and Bounds Festivals, and shows with Flyying Colours, Bad Habits and more.
