about

I've always liked albums that don't resolve perfectly and leave the door open for the next chapter. Therefore, I was always going to close the album out with my most depressing, melancholic song on the topic of failure and accepting reality
One of my biggest inspirations as a young kid learning about music was Elliott Smith. He wrote the most beautiful melodies, and his later albums were pretty upbeat and stacked with harmonies.
I was probably too young to understand the lyrics at the time, but years later - when I understood what he was singing out - it's the juxtaposition of music and lyrics that really got me.
I don't like singing about sad things slowly in a depressing minor key. Take a sad song and make it better by making it upbeat and giving it major key harmony.

lyrics

All of my dreams blowing away in the breeze
All that I have are the sweet memories
“It won’t be long ‘til you come crawling home”
That’s what they’d all say

Watching my youth fading away, incomplete
Dragging me under in a whirlpool of defeat
An innocence surrendered to the night
The games we’d all play

All of my dreams running away down the track
The carnival is over, now there is no turning back
Never change, don’t compromise
Some things will always be
