Thematically, this song came from a dark place. It's about a loved one living day to day with a personality disorder and struggling to regulate their feelings.
It can be emotionally draining just trying to express themself and equally so, the vicarious trauma of caring for them so much that you become their sole support mechanism.
I tried to counterbalance the heaviness with a light, upbeat arrangement - very much influenced by Britpop bands like The Lightning Seeds - fusing live drums with a Roland TR-77 machine.
