about

Montreal desi psych titans Elephant Stone deliver “Pilgrimage, the final tantalizing preview from the band’s forthcoming album Back Into The Dream, out now through Cheersquad Records & Tapes.

"Pilgrimage" sees Elephant Stone delivering yet another languid ethereal soundscape lifted from their 6th studio album Back Into The Dream, which lands this February 23rd. Crafted with pulsing tremolo and breathy woodwind, Rish Dhir’s mystical journey of self-discovery and homage to the late great Mark Hollis of Talk Talk floats gently on gusts of salted seaside air.

Dhir takes up the story, "in the early 2000s, I found myself crisscrossing America in a van, shoulder-to-shoulder with a motley crew of musicians. We weren't in it for the riches; we were chasing a dream, one stage at a time. When you're constantly on the move, it's easy to erect emotional walls, to isolate yourself even while surrounded by others. I was particularly prone to this kind of self-imposed solitude. With 'Pilgrimage' I attempted to capture the essence of that solitary journey—a voyage not just across the physical landscape, but through the intricate terrains of the soul, reminding us that sometimes, the most profound discoveries are made when we're farthest from home."

On the influence of Hollis, Dhir shares that, “Mark’s passing in 2019 really hit me hard and got me hooked on Talk Talk's music. There's something special about his voice and the way their music just breathes. When I was working on 'Pilgrimage', it felt like I was learning from the greats, standing on the shoulders of giants."

For over a decade, Elephant Stone has woven narratives soaked in sitar reveries and synth orchestrations, carving a distinctive niche in modern psych-pop. Led by the discerning Rishi Dhir, the band has not merely been about crafting sounds, but about communicating stories - stories of grief, loss, rebirth, and existential introspection.

lyrics

Pilgrimage
Hear the ocean wash in
Taste the salty sea air

See the clouds
Slowly come float in
Hear the thunder begin

This for me
That for you
Is there nothing else that we can do
I see life as it is
And as it will be
Pilgrimage

On the edge
Of the deep blue sea
I see in me

This for me
That for you
Is there nothing else that we can do
I see life as it is
And as it will be
Pilgrimage
