about

David M Western completes the preview of tracks from his forthcoming second album with “You Remind Me Of A Friend”, out September 7th on Cheersquad Records & Tapes.

“You Remind Me Of A Friend” is the third instalment, along with the warmly received “Buddy” and most recently the engaging “I’ll Never Forgive You”, taken from his forthcoming sophomore album On, On & On which will be out this October 20th on Cheersquad Records & Tapes.

“You Remind Me Of A Friend” is a poignant embrace set to fingerpicked ASMR guitar as Western delivers his plaintive sweet reflection. The singer explains this is, “one moment in time where something connects in your mind. Like when you’re going for a walk and pass a smell that takes you back many years to a time when things were different.”

Western goes on to offer that “You Remind Me Of A Friend” is directed towards friendship and love, and that people might reflect on their own lives when listening to this song. Adding, “it taps into a moment or a feeling when we realise things aren’t how they used to be. You might be hurt, or you might be thankful but it’s a powerful moment nonetheless”.

Western was keen that the music reflect the strange simplicity of the moment, accordingly most of the song is simply guitar and drums. Then like a warm eruption of feeling interrupts the reverie: a bass and a very quiet organ provide the most comforting explosion that heralds the sentiment of “wishing someone the best that you used to walk alongside”.

David M Western’s second album ‘On, On & On’ finds the songwriter expanding on his indie-folk alt-country, finding a bigger canvas on which to layer songs which hold space for friends and lovers past and present.

lyrics

I wasn’t this cold since I was hiking through the snow
But my heart was saying things were electrical
Didn’t care for friends when they needed me you know
I was drunk on fools gold I was taken by the show

Loving is a game
Always a game
Excuse me for staring
You remind me of a friend

Katey said we’re gonna win, win what
Shit’s a mystery jack, I don’t wanna know
Now the air don’t sting
Got time for Kate and everything
I roam around like a man come at the end of something

Loving is a game
Always a game
Excuse me for staring
You remind me of a friend

Sweet night strikes like a bright street light
Lying solo in my bed I’m fantastical
Read books about love but nothing was enough
I’m pretty bummed but still wish you well

Loving is a game
Always a game
Excuse me for staring
You remind me of a friend
